Board of Trustees

Brought up in Shropshire I entered into a banking career which enabled me to work all over the UK and then in Africa.  

I have been a member of Sundorne WI for 48 years – three times President and also Secretary and Assistant Treasurer.

Hello! I was very reluctant to even consider joining the WI, and only attended a local Meeting to keep a friend company. Needless to say I was hooked after 10 minutes and have loved every moment of W.I. since.

I am married with two children and two grandchildren.

I grew up in Pontesbury, before moving to London where I met my husband. We lived in Suffolk for many years, before relocating back to Shropshire in 1992 having spent 50 years working in a financial environment, and for the last 40 years in finance in independent schools, before retiring in 2019.

My Grandmother and Aunt were members of Prees WI but it wasn’t until I was married that I joined Cressage WI so that I could get to know people. I did lapse when we moved from the village but after a few years rejoined.

I joined Bicton and Oxon WI before I even moved into the village in December 2015 as so keen and soon joined our committee and became treasurer. It wasn't long before I attended my first SFWI trips and events where I loved meeting many more members.

As far as WI is concerned I am a late developer!! Once I had retired as a primary school Head Teacher I had time to think about a life for myself. I joined Prees WI shortly after moving house there and beginning our last restoration project. I have made so many friends through WI and the last couple of years, despite the pandemic, have brought even more ladies into our friendly and energetic group.

I feel that I have grown up with the WI as my mother was a member for many years before me! I am currently president at Sundorne WI, and thoroughly enjoy it, especially learning new things and the friendships I have formed.

Hello I am Jane Taylor, a true Salopian,  born in the same village as I still live in. It was inevitable that I would become a WI member, my mother being a former County Chairman who not only showed how much one could gain from being a member but passed on her love of cooking.

My name is June Turner and I have been on the board of Trustees for four years.

The role of trustee has shown me just how much goes on ‘behind the scenes’; not only making sure that everything we do complies with the Charity Laws, but the responsibilities of each one us to keep the Federation going for the benefit of members. 

Since joining Frankwell little Boro' in 2009 after a move from Berkshire, I have made so many good friends and been able to explore beautiful Shropshire.  I am  kept busy by involvement  in Amateur Dramatics and Musical theatre, plus still working. Meeting up at WI or going on a organised trip is a great way to relax.
